As an employee of Genentech, you and your family can receive a number of health and medical benefits that are designed to give you many choices of providers while making it easier to stay healthy throughout your busy life.
We offer a choice of four medical plans, three administered by United Healthcare and one by Kaiser (Kaiser is offered at specific locations in California). These plans provide you with comprehensive medical coverage, mental health and counseling benefits as well as prescription drugs. Depending on the plan you choose, alternative treatments such as chiropractic care and acupuncture are also covered.
Dental and Vision
You have the option of choosing from two dental plans administered by Delta Dental. Both offer comprehensive levels of care and freedom of choice in dental providers. For your convenience, a dental van is also available weekly at two onsite South San Francisco locations to provide employees at our headquarters with full-service dental care. We also provide a choice of two vision plans, both administered by Vision Service Plan (VSP).
Flexible Spending Accounts
Genentech offers you two Flexible Spending Accounts that allow you to use before-tax dollars to pay for eligible dependent care or eligible healthcare expenses not paid by a health plan.
Healthcare Benefits for Retired Employees
We also set money aside in an interest-bearing account to help eligible retirees pay for medical expenses. In addition, eligible retirees may continue healthcare coverage until age 65 or Medicare eligibility.
South San Francisco employees can use Club Genentech, our free fitness center on campus, as an easy and convenient spot to exercise. If you work in Vacaville, Oceanside or Hillsboro, you can take advantage of a free membership to a local health club. You may also receive discounted rates and pay no initiation or processing fees at any 24 Hour Fitness® facility. Field-based employees may be reimbursed for individual membership at a health club of their choice.
