The Position
The Network Services Operations team is responsible for project deployment and 24x7 operations support of our North America enterprise wired and wireless networks which serve over 22,000 users and are comprised of wireless access points, switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, proxies, VPN concentrators, and optical network devices.
We are looking for a results-driven analytical thinker with strong technical and process management skills who can provide imaginative, thorough, and practicable technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. This person will work closely with our architecture and engineering teams as well as vendors to maintain 99.99% availability while successfully deploying emerging network technologies to new and existing Genentech buildings and data centers.
Candidate must have good business acumen and possess strong communication and teamwork skills. We are looking for an individual with strong time management skills who can work autonomously making sound decisions that are consistent with organizational objectives. You must have a proven track record for delivering excellence thus enabling us to meet the scientific demands of our biotechnology revolution in information technologies.
Who You Are
- Expert knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco Catalyst switches (6500, 4500, and 3700) and various routers in a high speed, redundant, complex, large enterprise.
- Strong knowledge of Fortinet Firewalls, Checkpoint Firewalls, and F5 load balancers in a high availability data center environment.
- Strong knowledge in routing theory and protocols especially with BGP and OSPF configuration and analysis in large enterprises with multimedia applications such as video conferencing/streaming and VoIP
- Strong working knowledge of DHCP and DNS
- Strong knowledge of troubleshooting methodologies as they apply to resolving complex technical network problems. Must have experience using packet capture devices for network troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of wireless technologies including 802.11a/b/g/n protocols, Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP), and Cisco Wireless Services Modules (WiSM).
- Working knowledge of Voice-over-IP and IP Telephony services as well as Quality of Service (QoS) and Power over Ethernet (PoE).
- Working knowledge of security devices such as firewalls, proxies, and VPNs in addition to a strong understanding of authentication and data encryption.
- Ability to handle multiple problems and prioritize workload.
- Experience in designing, deploying, and managing incremental process improvements.
- Good organizational and personal communications skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
- Project management skills a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a high availability operational environment.
- Education/Training:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
- Cisco CCNA; CCNA or CCNP with Wireless is a plus
