The Position

The Global Engineering team is responsible for making technology happen for Genentech and Roche global by transforming the “technology roadmaps” into live solutions. The Global Engineering team is present in 4 locations: Basel, Madrid, Shanghai and South San Francisco, covering all time zones with around 100 highly qualified engineers. The Senior Engineer Security & IAM, NALA Region position is located at the South San Francisco site. The main responsibilities of the position are:

  • Design and develop technology solutions, including evaluation of promising technologies and development of evaluation criteria
  • Work with vendors, architecture, operations and solution owners managing the Proof of Concept and testing scenarios
  • Lead multi-threaded, globally distributed and complex projects
  • Mentor less experienced team members on industry standard design practices
  • Perform configuration, integration, functional specifications and development tasks for technology solution and services, including first implementation of the designed solutions
  • Develop best practices for technology solution for reuse across the compute environment
  • Ensure efforts and solutions align and adhere to the organization’s Technical Architecture Framework (TAF) policies, standards and direction as well as Solution Owner requirements
  • Ensure proper training of support teams on the technology solution
  • Stay abreast of operational difficulties and issues; work with support team staff to provide escalation support. 
  • Document and optimize technology solution environment as required
  • Ensure Quality standards as per company specifications are followed
  • Occasional travel and working outside standard office hours including weekends and holidays

Who You Are

We are looking for a Senior Engineer with expert level ability in the security and identity and access technology field, specifically for enterprise directory services solution. The candidate must have deep knowledge in the configuration, implementation and operation of enterprise directory services for LDAP and Active Directory. They must have excellent problem solving and decision making skills, excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively with team members and virtual teams and the ability to function independently with minimal supervision. Additionally, they must have excellent customer orientation and delivery focus with good end user perspective, excellent oral and written communication skills (English is a must, additional languages is a plus) and proven project and time management skills. 

We are looking for the following qualifications specific to the technology domain (demonstrable knowledge required):

  • Strong UNIX skills including installation, configuration and troubleshooting
  • Strong LDAP directories including schema and naming services design, installation, configuration and advanced troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with one or more LDAP implementations including SUN Directory server, Radiant Logic Virtual Directory or Active Directory and MIT Kerberos in a large-scale, mission-critical environment
  • Experience in LDAP protocol functions and advanced application configuration and integration
  • Strong experience developing with Perl, bash shell scripting, python, PHP
  • Security logging and event correlation
  • Working knowledge of data encryption technologies
  • Working knowledge of Single Sign-On and Identity Lifecycle Management
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Working experience in a regulated environment a plus

Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor degree in informatics or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the relevant field
  • Experience with complex design and deployment projects
  • Experience at similar size installations for multinational environments
  • ITIL, project management knowledge or certification a plus
  • German, Chinese Mandarin or Spanish language skills a plus
