Genentech Center for Clinical Research in Endocrinology The Genentech Center for Clinical Research in Endocrinology (The Center) is designed to support clinical research in endocrinology, metabolism and nephrology. Areas of focus are: physiology and pathophysiology of disorders of growth and development in children, and disorders of metabolism in adults and children, including but not limited to the role of growth hormone and growth factors. Grant applications are invited from Endocrinologists (Pediatric and Adult), Pediatric Nephrologists, Geneticists, Endocrine Nurses and allied health professionals. Professional applicants must be United States citizens or prospective citizens carrying a green card or actively seeking a green card and be a U.S.-licensed health professional in their field. Funds are granted by a blinded, peer reviewed panel of independent physician investigators.
Clinical Research Grants Single or multicenter grants are patient-oriented clinical research, including laboratory studies of human patient samples.
- Single-Center grants of up to $100,000 per year (including no more than 10 percent indirect costs). These grant proposals may request, and be approved for two (2) years of funding. If approved for two (2) years, the continuation of funding for the second year will be awarded on the basis of adequately fulfilled first-year goals.
- Funding is also available for clinical research proposals that involve laboratory or clinical research evaluations of normal human patient samples, as well as disordered growth and development samples. This category does not include proposals that are limited to the use of animal or cell-culture models.
- Multi-Center grants of up to $200,000 per year for a maximum of two (2) years (including no more than 10 percent indirect costs). Requirements include documented involvement of all sites in the planning of and participation in the study, which will result in distribution of resources in a reasonably equitable manner to all participating sites.
Small Grants Small grants of up to $10,000 (including no more than 10 percent indirect costs) are available for pilot studies in clinical research that may lead to larger proposals for funding consideration and for the development of educational materials/tools (e.g., teaching module).
Fellowship Training Grants Fellowship training grants support research in pediatric endocrinology and/or nephrology and in adult endocrinology. The clinical, or translational/basic research endeavor of the fellow should include a primary focus on physiology and pathophysiology of disorders of growth and development in children or disorders of metabolism in adults and children including but not limited to the role of growth hormone and growth factors. Grants for support of a fellowship will be for up to $50,000 per year for up to two (2) years. Genentech will not fund a fellowship covered by another Genentech funding source.
- Genentech supports fellowship training through support connected to the fellow's research project and therefore, Genentech generally does not support fellows in their first year of training.
- Selections will be based on the quality of the fellow's research proposal and the quality of the program, including training in clinical care, the credentials of the mentors, and the qualifications of the fellow.
- The fellow's involvement in the writing and design of the research proposal is expected.
- Proof of accreditation for the fellowship program and the status of the applicant, as a fellow must be submitted with an application.
