Fellowships are for grants to independent professional organizations, independent charitable organizations, or other eligible institutions, where the funds are used to support advanced study by clinical and research professionals at an accredited university or teaching institution.
Funding Priorities
The mission of Genentech's development program is to provide funding to foster training and research that supports the clinical practice of Genentech therapeutic areas.
How to Apply
Grant requests must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the project/program start date. The following uploads are required to submit your application:
- W-9 Form / W-8BEN Form
- Fellowship / Project description
- Detailed / Itemized Budget

Funding Requirements
The fellowship program is accredited, or in the case of retina-related fellowships, the program is a 2-year post-residency program
Operating expenses must be directly and exclusively dedicated to the activity for which the requestor is applying
Funding Restrictions
In order to be eligible for this type of funding, your organization must not be:
- A political or sectarian organization
- An individual, group practice, or private physician office
- Owned in whole or in part by a physician or a group of physicians
In order to be eligible the funding must not be used to:
- Develop clinical practice guidelines or algorithms
- Support a religious purpose
- Promote a Genentech or Roche product. Any study related to a Genentech/Roche marketed product or product in development (post IND) is out of scope.
The selection of the fellow for the fellowship cannot have already occurred
Decision Making
Genentech has a rolling review policy when evaluating funding requests for fellowships. This allows qualified requestors the opportunity to apply anytime during year.
Requests must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the project/program start date. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis; you will usually hear back from Genentech within 60 days of application.
Letter of Agreement (LOA)
All grants must abide by the terms in the Genentech Letter of Agreement (LOA), which is issued to an authorized signer of your organization once the application is approved.
