Top Employer/Diversity Awards Genentech Named Top Employer by ESSENCE Magazine In May 2005, Genentech was listed by ESSENCE magazine as among the top "35 Great Places to Work" for the third year in a row for its commitment to diversity in career advancement, work-life balance, representation in the workforce, and community support and involvement. Companies were asked to provide actual data on their practices in three key areas: the number of African-American women employed in all positions at all levels, the amount of money spent with minority vendors, and the amount in contributions given to organizations of interest to African-American women.

Genentech Named to Black Collegian's "Top 100 Employers" List For the fourth year in a row, Genentech was listed on the Black Collegian's "Top 100 Employers" list. Genentech was ranked number 58 for the Class of 2004 by the magazine, which is a career and self-development magazine for African-American students. To create the list, the magazine surveyed major employers in industry, government, and business on their projected number of hires from college recruiting efforts. Notably, Genentech was the only biotechnology company on the list.

Genentech Named One of Top 10 Healthiest Companies for Women In its July/August 2003 issue, Health magazine named Genentech one of the top 10 healthiest companies for women in the United States. Health based its rankings on a lengthy questionnaire that evaluated six key areas: preventive health, fitness, weight management, career mobility, work/life balance, and office culture. Genentech was commended for its six-week sabbatical program and other benefits promoting a healthy life balance.

Genentech Named One of Top 10 Companies for Asian Americans In its May 27, 2003 issue, Diversity Inc. magazine named Genentech one of the "Top 10 Companies for Asian Americans." Genentech was ranked number 2, and there were no other biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies listed. In order to compile the list, Diversity Inc. asked companies in-depth questions about representation, breaking down employees, management, boards of directors and highest-paid employees by specific racial/ethnic groups. The magazine also asked about multicultural advertising, supplier diversity and metrics.

Genentech Named to Pharmaceutical Executive's "Top 50 Pharma Companies for Women" Genentech was named one of the "Top 50 Pharma Companies for Women" by Pharmaceutical Executive magazine in its June 2000 issue. The list was determined by asking 50 female executives, from a broad group of pharmaceutical companies and organizations, which companies they considered the most supportive in advancing women's careers. The nominations were then examined for their relevant programs, company leadership, and accountability and representation at senior levels.

Genentech Given Family Forum Corporate Advocate Award During a Family Forum panel discussion and luncheon on Wednesday, November 15, 2000, Genentech was honored by The Child Care Coordinating Council of San Mateo County with the Corporate Advocate Award for leadership in on-site child care and creating a family-friendly workplace and culture. This was the first year the Family Forum recognized a corporation. The theme was "Family and Work: the Balancing Act."

Genentech Named "Company of the Year" by ISPE On November 8, 2005, Genentech was named "Company of the Year" for its accomplishments and contributions to the industry at the annual International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) conference in Scottsdale, Arizona. ISPE is a global, nonprofit membership organization that provides education, training and technical publications to pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals.

Genentech Wins Five Awards at 2005 Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards In August 2005, Genentech was honored with five awards at the Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards, including CEO and Chairman Arthur Levinson's nomination as CEO of the Year. Genentech also took three awards for the development and marketing of Avastin® (bevacizumab), including Industry Scientist of the Year to Mark Sliwkowski, Outstanding Biologic Drug Product, and Product Launch of the Year (together with Harrison and Star). Genentech also split a fifth award for Tarceva® (erlotinib) in the Outstanding Small Molecule Drug Product category.

Genentech Named to "Scientific American 50" List In its December 2003 issue, Genentech was named by Scientific American magazine as one of the "Scientific American 50," the magazine's annual list recognizing outstanding acts of leadership in technology from the past year. Genentech was named the Business Leader in Medical Treatment for developing Avastin® (bevacizumab).

Genentech Named to the "Red Herring 100" In the June 2002 issue, Red Herring magazine named Genentech for the second year in a row to its sixth annual "Red Herring 100" list of companies most likely to change the world. The "Red Herring 100" recognizes the top 50 public and the top 50 private companies whose services, business models, products and quality of management define business innovation. It previews the leaders of tomorrow in a number of key technology-related sectors, including biotechnology.

Genentech Named "Biotechnology Company of the Year" by Med Ad News Genentech was named "Biotechnology Company of the Year" by Med Ad News in the magazine's July 2002 issue. The magazine's editors cited several reasons for the company's selection, including Genentech's young and growing products, diverse product portfolio, strong and diverse pipeline, and impressive sales and earnings. The company was also recognized for its annual product launches since 1996, numerous upcoming BLAs and NDAs, as well as its "homegrown, mature management team that is driven by an ambitious...five-pronged plan for internal growth."

Genentech Named to Forbes ASAP's Dynamic 100 In the August 20, 2001 edition of Forbes ASAP magazine, Genentech was selected to be one of the "Dynamic 100" and was named the number one company in the field of biotechnology. Forbes ASAP's Dynamic 100 is a list of technology companies ranked by the analysts who cover them. Analysts assessed each company based on the following factors: change, opportunity, sell, people, alliances, ramp, and financials.

Genentech Named to Forbes' "Magnetic 40" In its May 21, 2001 issue, Forbes magazine included Genentech on its "Magnetic 40" list, recognizing it as a leader in the new age of collaborating. As a "collaborator of choice," Genentech was lauded for its ability to attract other resourceful companies and its skill at managing a network of relationships and alliances that spur growth, foster innovation, and, most importantly, provide patients with the best biotechnology has to offer.

Genentech Recognized as One of the "Top 500 Largest Companies in the US" by The Financial Times Announced on May 11, 2001, the annual Financial Times list of the "Top 500 Largest Companies in the United States" included Genentech as one of the largest at number 72. Based on market capitalization — the number of shares that a company has in issue multiplied by the market price of those shares at the specific time the survey is taken — Genentech rose by 13 spots from its position last year. The list also takes other components into consideration, such as: turnover rate, pre-tax profit, net profit, capital employed, number of employees, and the percent change in each of these groups from 2000 to 2001.

Genentech Honored by the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) On November 30, 2000, Genentech received the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Corporate Leadership Award. According to Kathy Giusti, President of MMRF, the organization granted Genentech the award due to its ability to provide therapies that impact the lives of cancer patients everywhere and its focus on the development of innovative biopharmaceuticals that address serious unmet medical needs. MMRF is the world's largest nonprofit myeloma organization and is dedicated to raising research funds and public awareness.

Genentech Presented with Annual Helix Award at the BIO CEO & Investor Conference In February 2004, Genentech was presented with the James D. Watson Helix Award at the BIO CEO & Investor Conference. The James D. Watson Helix Award is the highest award of excellence for the biotechnology industry. This is the second year Genentech has received the award. The award recognizes biotechnology companies that have distinguished themselves by setting a singular standard of corporate leadership as reflected in performance in three distinctive areas: scientific innovation, company growth and corporate citizenship.

Cure for Lymphoma Foundation's Trailblazers Award Genentech and IDEC Pharmaceuticals were honored with the 1999 Trailblazers Award from the Cure for Lymphoma Foundation. The award recognized the companies' research and development of Rituxan® (Rituximab), the first new, single-agent therapy for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 11 years and the first therapeutic antibody approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of cancer in the United States.

Philanthropy/Corporate Citizenship Awards Genentech Foundation Recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives In December 2001, the Genentech Foundation for Biomedical Sciences was recognized by the United States House of Representatives and Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo from California for its contributions to Gene Connection and the education of the students in San Mateo County. Gene Connection supports San Mateo County teachers with the equipment, supplies, reagents and expertise necessary to set up an innovative biotechnology laboratory program and do meaningful experiments with DNA. The Genentech Foundation for the Biomedical Sciences has been the flagship supporter of Gene Connection since its inception in 1989 and has granted more than $745,000 to Gene Connection for biotechnology equipment and teacher support.

Management/Researcher Awards

Genentech Researcher Receives "Grand Prix Lefoulon-Delalande-Institut de France 2005" Award In June 2005, Napoleone Ferrara, M.D., Fellow at Genentech, received the "Grand Prix Lefoulon-Delalande-Institut de France 2005" award for angiogenesis research. He shared the prize with Judah Folkman and Harold Dvorak.

Genentech Researcher Receives AACR's Cain Award In April 2005, Napoleone Ferrara, M.D., Fellow at Genentech, was chosen to receive the American Association of Cancer Research's (AACR) annual Bruce F. Cain Memorial Award. The Cain Award recognizes individuals for outstanding preclinical research in the fields of medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, or tumor biology as related to drug discovery that has implications for the improved care of cancer patients. Ferrara was honored for his discovery of the protein Vascular Endothelial Cell Growth Factor (VEGF) and for his outstanding research leading to the development of the anti-VEGF antibody.

Arthur Levinson Named to Worth Magazine's Top 50 CEOs In the May 2001 issue of Worth magazine, Art Levinson was named one of the top 50 CEOs for his visionary leadership of one of the oldest biotechnology companies. Worth magazine selected this year's best CEOs based on their ability to deliver long-term shareholder value. The possession of a compelling vision, along with a demonstrated ability to perform under stress and when confronted by urgent challenges, were all criteria used to measure each nominee.

Genentech Honored with Biotechnology Heritage Award In 2000, Herbert W. Boyer and the late Robert A. Swanson, of Genentech, were named recipients of the 2nd Annual Biotechnology Heritage Award for their contributions in shaping the biotechnology revolution.

The award, sponsored by the Biotechnology Industry (BIO) and the Chemical Heritage Foundation, recognizes people whose careers have contributed to the growth of biotechnology through discovery, innovation, commercialization, or public understanding.

1999 National Medal of Technology Genentech co-founder Robert Swanson was awarded (posthumously) the 1999 National Medal of Technology for his foresight and leadership in recognizing the commercial promise of recombinant DNA technology and his seminal role in the establishment and development of the biotechnology industry. The National Medal of Technology, established by Congress in 1980 and administered by the Department of Commerce, recognizes technological innovation and advancement of the nation's global competitiveness, as well as ground-breaking contributions that commercialize a technology, create jobs, improve productivity, or stimulate the nation's growth and development in other ways.

National Breast Cancer Coalition Corporate Leadership Award Genentech chairman and chief executive officer Arthur D. Levinson, Ph.D received the 1999 Corporate Leadership Award from the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC). The award recognized the company's groundbreaking collaboration with breast cancer advocates in the research process for Herceptin® (Trastuzumab), a therapeutic antibody indicated for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer. Genentech collaborated with NBCC and other breast cancer advocates around the country on designing, conducting and overseeing the Herceptin clinical trial.

1999 Distinguished Inventor Award Two of Genentech's current scientists and two former Genentech scientists received the prestigious 1999 Distinguished Inventor Award given by the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO). The winners, Gordon A. Vehar, Staff Scientist, Genentech; William I. Wood, Staff Scientist, Genentech; Daniel J. Capon, Chief Executive Officer, Genetic Information Systems; and Richard M. Lawn, Vice President, Discovery Research, CV Therapeutics were honored for their work on Factor VIII, a genetically engineered clotting factor for bleeding in hemophiliacs. Genentech's scientists were the first to isolate the gene for Factor VIII and the first to successfully use the gene to produce Factor VIII by recombinant DNA technology.

Irvington Institute's Corporate Leadership Award The 1999 Corporate Leadership Award in Science was conferred on Arthur D. Levinson, Ph.D., chairman and chief executive officer of Genentech, by the Irvington Institute for Immunological Research. Dr. Levinson and Genentech were recognized for the company's passion for scientific excellence and its commitment to basic research in the search for new medicines.

UCSD/Salk Translational Medicine Award Genentech chairman and chief executive officer Arthur D. Levinson, Ph.D. and Dr. Dennis Slamon from the UCLA School of Medicine were joint recipients of the 1999 UCSD/Salk Translational Medicine Award. The award is given for pioneering scientific and clinical work which leads to therapeutic advances. Levinson and Slamon were recognized for pioneering efforts that eventually led to the development and application of Herceptin® antibodies as a new therapy for metastatic breast cancer. This work represents a pivotal advance in biologically targeted therapy for this disease.
