FAQ: Hiring Process

What is the salary range?

Genentech offers competitive salaries that vary by department, job function and experience. Our salary guidelines are reviewed annually to ensure that they are competitive within the industry.

If I am not selected for a position, will you review my resume against other job openings or do I need to apply directly to those?

Although our recruiters may attempt to review your resume against other job openings as they become available, they do not always have the opportunity to do so. If you see a new position that you feel you may be qualified for, we recommend that you submit your resume directly to the new position(s).

How long is the typical hiring process?

We want to ensure that we hire the best possible candidate for an available position. Depending on the position, the hiring process can range from two months to longer.

What types of prequalification steps are there?

Recruiters will review resumes based on the requirements for the position. If you meet the requirements, a recruiter will forward your resume to a hiring manager for further review.

My resume has been updated. Can I send in a new copy?

You can click "Edit Resume" in the left-hand navigation bar at any time to update your resume.

Will you offer relocation?

Sometimes we do. Relocation Assistance varies based on position. Your hiring manager or recruiter will be able to confirm if relocation assistance is available.

Will I receive a response when I apply?

If you apply for a position on Genentech's website, you will receive email notification confirming that your resume has been received. No further communication will be made with you unless we identify you as a candidate of interest. Qualified candidates of interest will be contacted directly by a Genentech recruiter or hiring manager.

When will I hear from a recruiter?

It depends on the position. We are very fortunate that so many qualified candidates are interested in working for Genentech. Determining our top candidates does occasionally take time, and we appreciate your patience.

How can I tell which jobs I have applied to?

Select "View Application History" in the left-hand navigation bar. You'll see a list of job titles along with the location and date you applied.

Can I reapply to a job?

In order to minimize duplicate applications, we only allow you to apply once for each job. If you edit your resume or contact information after you have already applied for a job, our system will automatically update your information.

How long will a job stay posted?

Jobs will be posted for a minimum of five business days, up to when a position is filled or canceled.

If I didn't find any jobs that match my qualifications or interest me, should I still submit a resume?

If there any jobs open that you are interested in, please submit your resume directly to the position. Recruiters review qualified resumes when a job opens and will contact you if you are a qualified candidate of interest for the opening.

Can I follow up with someone? Who can I call?

The Employment Information Line is: (650) 225-2580.

When will I hear back if I am to be contacted for face-to-face interviews?

Your resume and cover letter (if you decide to include one) are immediately sent to the recruiter responsible for the job. We will contact you directly if we think you are a qualified candidate of interest for the opening.

Will I hear back from a recruiter after applying?

You will receive an on-screen confirmation after your resume has been successfully submitted. Your resume and cover letter (if you included one) are immediately sent to the recruiter responsible for the job. We will contact you directly if we think you are a qualified candidate of interest for the opening.

What are some of the challenges that I might face in this particular role?

Each position offers new and exciting challenges and can be addressed with your hiring manager during the preliminary interviews.
