Interview Transcript "I learned that I had rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 17.
I had initially gone in for fever and the flu, which turned out to be the rheumatic fever. And after that, the pain in my joints didn't go away, so after two months of being swollen, my doctor continued to take blood tests, and he came up with a positive RA factor.
I started Rituxan® (Rituximab) almost two years ago. At first, I was a little bit on the fence because at the very beginning of being diagnosed with rheumatoid, I didn't want to take any medication. So going from being resistant to medication to taking a biologic, I had a lot of faith in what my health could be.
Rituxan has affected my life for the positive. It's made a great change in my attitude and the things I'm able to do — cooking, cleaning, spending a little bit more time with friends, not getting so fatigued like I was before, having a better appetite, and just being more happy than I was before."
Product Indication: Rituxan in combination with methotrexate is indicated to reduce signs and symptoms and to slow the progression of structural damage in adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis who have had an inadequate response to one or more TNF antagonist therapies.
Important Safety Information: Rituxan has been associated with fatal infusion reactions, tumor lysis syndrome (TLS), severe mucocutaneous reactions and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). Hepatitis B reactivation and cardiac arrhythmias and angina have also been observed. Patients should be closely observed for signs of infection if biologic agents and/or DMARDs other than methotrexate are used concomitantly. Common adverse reactions ( ≥ 5%): hypertension, nausea, upper respiratory tract infection, arthralgia, pruritus, and pyrexia.
