Affiliate Research Programs

Research Administration, which manages the Affiliate Research Programs, helps the company's research scientists collaborate with other scientists all over the world, expanding Genentech's research capabilities as well as discovering novel technologies and products of potential significance to Genentech. The group keeps Genentech's business and legal needs in mind while providing contracting services that enable company scientists to expand their research beyond Genentech, building a bridge between the company's research scientists and outside academic and corporate collaborators. Research Administration agreements span a wide range of areas, including software licensing, consulting, sponsored research, collaboration and material transfer.

Genentech is famous for its world class research. In addition to the research done at Genentech we also support investigators in academic institutions throughout the world by supplying key reagents for their research. The Research Contracts and Reagents Program at Genentech coordinates the interface with outside institutions. An easy way for researchers at other academic institutions to initiate work with Genentech is to complete the Material Request Form where they can request proteins, antibodies, and cDNAs from Genentech for their studies. These requests are granted on the bases of scientific merit and availability of material. Completing this form is the first half of the request process. Once your request has been scientifically reviewed, Genentech will inform you of the scientific decision on the proposed study along with the necessary MTA (Material Transfer Agreement) for the requested material(s) — if the request is approved. The Material Request Form should take only 15-20 minutes to complete and submit over the Internet. When the Material Request Form is successfully completed you will receive a Proposal Request ID Number as confirmation. Please note this number for future reference.
