Jennie Lill Senior Scientist: Protein Chemistry

Profile | Education/Background | Top Scientific Papers | Awards & Honors

"I decided to pursue a career at Genentech as it presented the opportunity to join a world-leading research environment. As a member of the Protein Chemistry department, I have become involved in many projects encompassing a variety of disciplines and cutting-edge drug discovery research topics. In addition to these collaborations, I have also had the opportunity to initiate novel biochemical and mass spectrometric technology development projects. I joined Genentech as a Scientist in 2004 working with Dr. David Arnott in the Microchemistry and Proteomics group."

Current Projects "My lab is focused on three main areas of technology development including microwave-assisted proteomics, biochemical and mass spectrometry based methods for high-throughput N-terminal sequencing and de novo sequencing of monoclonal antibodies. We also develop methods to increase throughput and sensitivity for protein characterization and quantitation."

Collaborations "My group is involved in the characterization of proteins, their intracellular interactions, quantitation and post translational modifications. In addition to the service element of the lab, we are also involved in collaborating with many of the drug discovery groups within the Research department at Genentech.

Many of my current collaborations involve looking at protein-protein interactions and associated post-translational modifications using bioanalytical techniques including mass spectrometry. The characterization of these proteins is used to help elucidate cell signaling pathways involved in angiogenesis, apoptosis, oncology & immunology. Our collaborators are extremely diligent, creative and inspiring, and the chance to be involved in early drug discovery with such passionate researchers makes working on these projects extremely rewarding."

Inspiration/Vision "My inspiration comes from the enthusiasm and dedication of my team and collaborators. I am extremely proud to be part of this rewarding endeavor and excited to see our current early stage drug discovery research & technology development projects come to fruition."
