Profile | Education/Background | Top Scientific Papers | Awards & Honors

"I decided to pursue a career at Genentech as it presented the opportunity to join a world-leading research environment. As a member of the Protein Chemistry department, I have become involved in many projects encompassing a variety of disciplines and cutting-edge drug discovery research topics. In addition to these collaborations, I have also had the opportunity to initiate novel biochemical and mass spectrometric technology development projects."

Current Projects "My lab is focused on developing methods for the high throughput and sensitive characterization of proteins, and the isolation and characterization of post translational modifications to aid in the elucidation of novel intracellular signaling mechanisms and drug discovery efforts. Our current technological development projects include high throughput antibody de novo sequencing, SUMOylation site mapping protocols and the development of bioinformatic tools too allow us to stream line our data analysis. We are also involved with developing methods using the PTMscan technology licensed from Cell Signaling Technologies to unravel low level signaling pathways to aid in understand cellular signaling events."

Collaborations "My group is involved in the characterization of proteins, their intracellular interactions, quantitation and post translational modifications. In addition to the service element of the lab which is run by Wendy Sandoval, we are also involved in collaborating with many of the drug discovery groups within the Research department at Genentech.

Many of my current collaborations involve looking at protein-protein interactions and associated post-translational modifications using bioanalytical techniques including mass spectrometry. The characterization of these proteins is used to help elucidate cell signaling pathways involved in angiogenesis, apoptosis, oncology, drug resistance & immunology. Our collaborators are extremely diligent, creative and inspiring, and the chance to be involved in early drug discovery with such passionate researchers makes working on these projects extremely rewarding."

Inspiration/Vision "My inspiration comes from the enthusiasm and dedication of my team and collaborators. I am extremely proud to be part of this rewarding endeavor and excited to see our current early stage drug discovery research & technology development projects come to fruition."
