David Stirling Senior Director: Pharmaceutical Sciences |
"I joined Genentech in November of 2005 as Director of Small Molecule Pharmaceutical Sciences. In this role, I am responsible for Process Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Formulation Development, and Analytical Development. Our role is to enable the selection of clinical candidates, design a process for making drugs, deliver supplies for safety studies & clinical trials, and scale the process for eventual commercialization.
I was attracted to Genentech because of their commitment to basic research, high quality science, and ability to translate this knowledge into drugs that make a difference. I am excited to be a part of the small molecule discovery and development effort and working with top scientists who share the same passion and sense of urgency as I do."
Current Projects "My current project is to build and expand the small molecule development capabilities and at the same time, support the discovery efforts of a growing portfolio. We are fostering a unique culture here at Genentech based on talented scientists who enjoy what they do, science driven decisions, a focus on progressing projects, and technology to enable our efforts."
Collaborations "We work in project teams and depend on each other to collectively progress projects from discovery, through clinical trials, and registration as a new drug. Over the life of a project, we may work with 100 people. Creating and leveraging partnerships is a huge part of our success."
Inspiration/Vision "Success comes from the joining of peoples talents, their personal passions and dedication to developing drugs. Building an environment where these rare blends come together is what I strive for. Keeping this momentum takes dedication and a vision for the future, a place where new ideas get off the ground."
