"I joined Genentech in the fall of 2003 to build a Pharmaceutics group to support the budding small molecule efforts. And this was the start of the most exciting part of my career. I was attracted to Genentech by its focus on science of highest quality, innovation, helping patients with unmet medical needs, making decisions based on science and fun-loving culture. Being close to the world-class experts in formulation for biologics was also very tempting."
Current Projects "Our group supports all small molecule projects from formulations for preclinical testings, to carefully characterize a new compound heading to clinical trials, and to design and develop final product for clinical studies and for market. We are building our group to be both most efficient in moving the project forward together with our partners, as well as doing top-notch science in the pharmaceutical area."
Collaborations "Drug discovery and development can only be done by multidisciplinary teams and it does take "a village" to deliver a drug from test tubes to the patients' hands. Our group enjoys both the exciting, fast-paced discovery teams as well as the time-sensitive, meticulous, strategic mode of the development team. There is no detail too small for success."
Inspiration/Vision "It is very rewarding to be a formulator of new drugs. It is the child of your hard work that gets dosed in patients on the first day of a clinical trial, and ultimately, it is the final product that got to put on shelves in every pharmacy. Although we don't invent the molecules, we help to make them better."
