I joined the Department of Immunology at Genentech as a scientist in 2002 because I was attracted to its strong research tradition and to its commitment to translating this research into therapies that can have a significant impact on human diseases.

I value the energy, creativity, and collaborative spirit that underlie Genentech's research culture and am motivated by being able to work with a broad array of colleagues who are passionate about understanding human diseases and developing new therapies for unmet medical needs.

• My Focus

  My lab is interested in understanding the pathophysiology and heterogeneity of asthma. One focus is on IgE biology and type 2 inflammation, which contribute to the pathogenesis of asthma and other allergic diseases. Our studies of the in vivo biology of IgE have led to the identification of IgE memory cells, and we are interested in further characterizing these cells and improving our understanding of IgE biology and memory.

  My lab is also interested in understanding intracellular signaling pathways that mediate the activation and differentiation of T- and B-lymphocytes. We complement molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches with the use of novel selective small molecule inhibitors to better understand the biology of these pathways.
