As an employee of Genentech, you and your family can receive a number of health and medical benefits that are designed to give you many choices of providers while making it easier to stay healthy throughout your busy life.
We offer a choice of five medical plans, four administered by United Healthcare and one by Kaiser (Kaiser is offered at specific locations in California). These plans provide you with comprehensive medical coverage, mental health and counseling benefits as well as prescription drugs. Depending on the plan you choose, alternative treatments such as chiropractic care and acupuncture are also covered.
You have the option of choosing from two dental plans administered by Delta Dental. Both offer comprehensive levels of care and freedom of choice in dental providers. For your convenience, a dental van is also available weekly at two onsite South San Francisco locations to provide employees at our headquarters with full-service dental care. We also provide a choice of two vision plans, both administered by Vision Service Plan (VSP).
Genentech offers you two Flexible Spending Accounts that allow you to use before-tax dollars to pay for eligible dependent care or eligible healthcare expenses not paid by a health plan.
Genentech offers a Health Savings Account (HSA) for employees enrolled in the High Deductible Health Choice Medical plan. The HSA allows you to save and use before-tax dollars for short and long term healthcare expenses. Genentech also contributes money to this account.
We also set money aside in an interest-bearing account to help eligible retirees pay for medical expenses. In addition, eligible retirees may continue to have access to healthcare coverage until age 65 or Medicare eligibility.
South San Francisco employees can use Club Genentech, our free fitness center on campus, as an easy and convenient spot to exercise. If you work in Vacaville, Oceanside or Hillsboro, you can take advantage of a free membership to a local health club. You may also receive discounted rates and pay no initiation or processing fees at any 24 Hour Fitness® facility. Field-based employees may be reimbursed for individual membership at a health club of their choice.
