The Position

Early Stage Cell Culture is responsible for developing and improving the cell lines used to make our products and developing the fermentation and cell culture processes to support pre-clinical and clinical development through Phase 2. The department is also committed to providing essential materials to gRED and to reducing the risk, cost, and time of process development through technology development.

This project's goal is to improve (soon-to-be) existing software for search and visualization of DNA plasmids used in PD work in department (both CHO and E.coli).   
  1. Extend backbone detection to multiple plasmid backboens.
  2. Display molecule name using harmonized nomenclature - Come up with logics to condense nomenclature using string manipulation 
  3. Search and compare different plasmids and display as linear view of plasmid.
  4. Export sequencing files with auto-detected annotation features. Also improve plasmid visualization and export of plasmid maps in editable format (emf file).
  5. Record and save high-level cloning history of each plasmid – linked DNA sequencing results.
  6. Work with bioinformatics group (curation group) to come up with DNA registration process ensuring important annotation is added by users.

Who You Are

  • Advanced skills on JavaScript, JSONSimple, API, Regex (regular expression) and string manipulation.
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL and relational database and SQL, github repository with example of built applications
  • Great collaboration and communication skills – work as ‘translator’ between researchers and software developer
  • Problem solving ability (especially computer programing issues) with minimum amount of assist from others
  • Basic understanding about molecular biology and cloning work
