The Position

Genentech's Workplace Effectiveness (WE) organization is creating office spaces designed to shape the evolution of work and a program to support the adoption of behaviors & technologies that accelerate business outcomes. A Neighborhood Work Environment (NWE) is a mix of group assigned shared spaces, technologies and agreements, which represent an approach to creating choices adapted to the increasingly flexible way we work. Our work experience - the architecture, technology, and habits we develop, can and should support the way we actually do things. It might be the way the space is configured, the digital tools we use, or the number of meetings we schedule; these things can either help us succeed or become obstacles.

As of Q1, 2018, there are about 5,000 South San Francisco employees working in NWEs as we continue to improve and expand the program. By 2022, we plan to have about 80% of our South San Francisco workforce operating in NWEs.

Responsibilities

In partnership with the NWE Technology Platform Manager, this individual will help define and create content for a documentary on the Neighborhood Work Environments Program at Genentech.

We are interested in unlocking insights about the program via the following:

  1. Plan, shoot and edit produced interviews of various members of the Workplace Effectiveness (WE) organization about the NWE program. The organization consists of four subteams: Neighborhood Work Environments, Real Estate Strategy, Space & Scenario Planning, WE Analytics. The deliverable is to honestly depict our level of vertical & horizontal alignment about how the program is going, what it is about, where it should focus to improve results.
  2. Plan, shoot and edit produced interviews of various clients in Neighborhoods. We are interested in capturing success stories, patterns of struggles, opinions on how the program is going, what it is about, where it might focus to improve results.
  3. Catalog recorded footage from 1 & 2 for inclusion in a longer form documentary that is produced over several summers & internships.  The content will be used to influence the program. The audience will be the internal WE organization at first. Larger audiences will be considered based on the content itself and our determination of the usefulness of it. E.g. Use success stories as positive models for struggling clients. Use struggling stories to learn and improve. Both sides will also play a vital role in the long form documentary to show an honest arc of the program’s evolution.
