The Position

Main Purpose of the Position:

The key objective of this intern project is to improve communication and processes for qualifying Service Providers. The interfaces include: Service end users, Supplier Quality Management, and Service Providers regarding process implementation, quality issues and continual improvement.


The candidate will work globally with internal Service Provider stakeholders throughout the Roche/Genentech network. Overall, the intern will gain in-depth knowledge of Roche Quality requirements for Service Providers, supplier management processes, and performance measurement tools. The intern will also develop processes and tools to enable SQM to serve customers’ needs more effectively.


Job Duties/Responsibilities:

This project will provide in-depth working knowledge of overall Service Provider oversight throughout the Roche/Genentech network. The intern will need to work independently to identify communication and oversight gaps, organize team meetings, and analyze data to develop process improvements and business tools. The intern will be a key member of GSP118 Service Provider implementation team, drive improvements to Service Provider qualification and Quality oversight. The goal of this team is to implement global processes and procedures for supplier qualification and quality related issues.


This internship will enable the intern to:

  • Support a Genentech/Roche Global organization and cross-functional teams.
  • Assist with implementation of new global procedures and addressing resulting gaps (Global List of Approved Suppliers, Audit Tracking and GSP118: Qualification and Management of Service Providers, Contractors and Consultants)
  • Experience the challenges of communicating and coordinating with globally-located external third parties (service provider organizations).
  • Experience working with a global team while driving improved quality processes.



Intern Project Deliverables

  • Establish GSP118 implementation teams for the qualification and Quality oversight of Service Providers (i.e. create charters, lead meetings, etc.)
  • Establish Service Provider qualification and monitoring tools
  • Manage open items in the tools to document the qualification requirements and status of a service provider as well as a risk-based approach to Quality oversight and monitoring.
  • Create (and conduct) training for users on proper use of the tools
  • GSP118 implementation and gap mitigation support
  • Present processes to SQM team and other stakeholders
  • Provide feedback on relevant improvements to SQM’s key stakeholders
  • Intern will work with Manager to refine deliverables based on Analyst’s capacity, current need and interest level


Who You Are

Qualifications: Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

(Minimum requirements)

  • B.A. or B.S. degree (preferably in engineering, biotech or business) with 0 – 2 years experience in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferably good knowledge of cGMP, GLP, good clinical practices, FDA Guidelines and Points to Consider documents, and standards routinely used in the industry (ANSI, ISO, Federal Standards, etc.)
  • Preferably good knowledge of OE tools; e.g., statistical methods, FMEA, Six Sigma, Lean
  • Ability to interpret and follow Roche Quality standards
  • Ability to make sound decisions about scheduling, coordinating, and managing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills, which include a professional demeanor when interacting with personnel at all levels within Roche world wide operations, suppliers, contract manufacturers, regulatory agency representatives, etc.
  • Flexibility in problem solving and work hours to meet business objectives
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to influence others and work as part of a team
  • This position does not require domestic or international travel
