The Position


This role is dedicated to the development and fostering of a Lean culture which drives exceptional performance.  This position sits on the PT Drug Substance Leadership Team (DSLT) within the PTM Manufacturing Unit.  This work ultimately supports the organization’s capability to provide medicine to patients faster with less effort. 


Roche is challenged with growth, a diverse pipeline of products, increasing competition, regulatory oversight and the complexity that follows. The Head of PTM Operational Excellence is in a unique position to directly support the MU to excel in this environment by leveraging Lean principles that equip and empower the organization to solve problems and perform at increasingly higher levels.  We are deploying a Lean Production System (LPS) that leverages standard elements, methods and tools meant to deliver measurable business results.  


This role leads a team of Operational Excellence professionals as well as a network of site OE teams within PTM.  This individual will mentor and coach business leaders and OE professionals to effectively leverage the LPS while demonstrating the Roche values and PT behaviors.  Additionally, this role is a connection point for PTM to the broader OE community within PT and serves as a member of the PT Lean Production System Council (LPSC).

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the standards for the PT LPS are known and followed and support PTM site maturity progression
  • Lead PTM OE team and network and partner with PT Lean
  • Represent DSLT during site visits and network activities
  • External point of contact for OE
  • Lead PTM OE team through the following regular activities:
    • Set team goals and ensure connectivity to purpose (Hoshin Kanri) and alignment with PT and MU strategies, targets and KPIs
    • Lead team huddles leveraging performance board and regular staff meetings
    • Communicate pass down and up information
    • Manage cost center
    • Talent Management exercises (including compensation, performance and development)
    • Make hiring decisions 
  • Mentor and coach the organization (including leaders) to effectively apply OE theories and concepts
  • Lead decision making support and make recommendations regarding best options 
  • Communicate proactively with stakeholders and senior management regarding progress, emergent issues and plans for resolution
  • Ensure improvement methodology and tools are utilized effectively to maximize benefits
  • Collaborate with leadership – Ability to influence with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives, bring teams to consensus/alignment.
  • Provide Change Management support by influencing key stakeholders and team members/customers/leadership in order to drive and enable positive change

? Industry/Business Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline and advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 12-15 years of related analytical, business and operational experience in Supply Chain Management /Manufacturing / Engineering or Process Development.
  • Bio-tech / pharmaceutical industry experience a plus
  • 10+ years people management experience including leading cross-functional teams
  • Fluent in English
  • Travel required (estimated 35%)
