The Position

We have an opening for a talented Scientific Researcher/Senior Scientific Researcher to join our Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology Department. The successful candidate will support broad research functions focused on mass spectrometry for protein therapeutics, including non-traditional biologic formats. More specifically, the individual will develop, validate and execute various mass spectrometric assays to characterize biologic therapeutics from both in vitro and in vivo studies to support lead-finding/optimization efforts in the context of multidisciplinary project teams. Responsibilities include developing and implementing pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic assays for studying clearance and biotransformation of biotherapeutics as well as quantitating biomarkers. The individual will be expected to assist in the implementation of robust and high throughput sample preparation, biomolecule separations as well as data analysis workflows for mass spectrometric assays. In addition, the candidate will function as part of a multi-disciplinary project team that will coordinate with protein chemistry, antibody engineering, in vitro and in vivo groups to advance lead molecules of the projects.

Requirements:

The qualified individual will possess a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field with relevant liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry experience in academia, biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry. Practical experience in the design, development, validation and execution of mass spectrometric characterization of intact proteins and peptides is required; experience with high throughput mass spectrometry is a plus. Practical experience with sample handling and biomolecule separations including chromatography is required. Experience with commonly used mass spectrometers and both qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods and software is required. Familiarity with automated or semi-automated instrumentation, while not required, would be advantageous, as would familiarity with the multi-disciplinary activities of antibody lead profiling. The position requires good communication skills and the ability to work well in teams. Excellent time management and organizational skills with a drive for conceiving and performing highly innovative cutting edge technological research is necessary.
