The manager of internal communications will be responsible for developing and implementing internal communication strategies that help build trust in leaders, educate employees about the business, enhance our employees’ day-to-day experience and support our culture.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about communicating with employees, creative, driven to experiment, willing to fail fast, highly detailed-oriented, organized and able to multi-task, as well as have strong executive presence, good judgment and excellent written skills. He or she must be dedicated to supporting our executives’ commitment to communicating authentically, transparently and without corporate speak and jargon.
This position is an intense, fast-paced and influential role within a fun, experienced and high-energy team. This individual will report to the director and head of Internal Communications.
Execute key tactics and events for the annual internal executive communications and visibility plan.
Draft select executive communications across a wide variety of internal channels and mediums with high quality and attention to detail.
Create and deliver strategic communications that help our top 150 leaders be even better and more aligned communicators.
Develop and deliver compelling, consistent messages in support of key programs and initiatives that contribute to Genentech evolving as a great place to work (e.g, benefits, compensation, campus amenities and technology enhancements)
Work with internal clients to understand communications needs, provide counsel and execute key tactics including but not limited to emails, news articles, human interest stories, podcasts, videos, quizzes, apps, posters, photo snapshots, infographics, memes, giveaways, events and experiences.
Manage and support the execution of meetings of the Genentech’s cross-functional internal communicators network.
Act as a corporate journalist for our intranet, writing compelling stories that inspire and educate our employees.
Manage Internal Communications’ measurement efforts including collecting and analyzing data to drive value and impact.
Manage the Internal Communications team’s two-way feedback channels, including preparing summaries and recommendations for enhancements.
Spot communications, technology and employee engagement trends that will help the Internal Communications team continue to evolve its thinking and practices.
Draft materials to support best employer awards.
Work across the Internal Communications team and with partners across the company on communications projects as needed in the best interests of the company and its employees.
Who You Are
A minimum of 5 years of experience in communications and/or public relations; internal communication experience preferred
Experience developing and executing communications strategies, plans, programs and events
Solid understanding of executive communications, employee engagement, channels and event management
Biotech or pharma experience is highly desirable
To be successful, the individual in this role must have:
Outstanding communications and presentation skills, both written and verbal
Strong story-telling skills, excellent editorial judgment, a passion for language and a dislike for corporate speak
The ability to distill complex content into clear, concise and engaging communications, and be able to write with speed and accuracy
A strong track record of building and maintaining constructive relationships with leadership, internal business partners and colleagues
The ability to influence without authority, particularly across functions, geographies and levels, and the ability to work with various departments and teams to drive alignment and successful coordination
Strong attention-to-detail and project management skills
Strong executive presence to build high credibility with senior executives as needed (e.g., CEO, CFO, etc.)
Outstanding time management and organizational skills
A demonstrated commitment to innovation in the field of internal communications and ideally executive communications
The ability to effectively prioritize complex workload demands and deadlines
Strong customer-orientation and proven track record of collaborative work relationships
Strong creative ability, knowing how to use creative design effectively to enhance employee understanding of business strategies and engagement
Experience managing external vendor partners and other internal colleagues in the execution of communications strategies, plans, programs and events
