The Position

Objectives and scope of position:


The LSPC Business Manager is responsible for providing governance guidance, operational support and governance process ownership for the Late Stage Portfolio Committee (LSPC) to enable high quality portfolio investment decisions to support optimization of R&D productivity. This position will lead a team to support Portfolio business and decision management activities and is accountable for select LSPC supporting deliverables. This role is a thought partner for the Head of Pipeline and Portfolio Planning (PPP), Head of Portfolio & Product Development Strategy (PPS) and the LSPC Chairs to proactively manage and ensure high quality and timely portfolio investment decision-making. This position reports to the Head of Cross-Portfolio in Pipeline and Portfolio Planning. 

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Provide monthly portfolio and decision context to LSPC.
  • Manage LSPC, including agenda management, Chairs briefings, governance requirements, and portfolio context.
  • Coordinate development and tracking of annual LSPC goals.
  • Provide monthly prioritization of approved and unapproved LSPC projects.
  • Own and facilitate LSPC governance processes including Annual Life Cycle Planning, Lifecycle Investment Point and PivGo.
  • Ensure continuous learning by disseminating insights to PPP and key stakeholders.
  • Support cross PPP/PD projects and deliverables as appropriate.
  • Manage a team of 3-4 including hiring and developing talent.

Qualification, Experience and Expertise:

  • 7-10 years biopharma experience. Experience in multiple functional/cross-functional roles and understanding of interplay between development decisions and business outcomes preferred.
  • Previous experience in portfolio management or similar functional experience desired.
  • Understanding of drug development and portfolio assessment (valuations and decision analysis) preferred.
  • MBA, advanced degree or equivalent experience desired.
  • Demonstrated leadership of successful cross-functional, strategic initiatives required. Candidate should have experience developing recommendations, presenting to and gaining support of senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated thought partnership/leadership of senior leaders (VP, SVP and up) on complex topics, including framing, decision-support and influence management.
  • Experience successfully managing processes and services preferred, including a track record of continuously improving processes/services to meet organizational needs.
  • Experience working in a global function preferred, ability to maintain global hours required.

Other:

  • Travel: as required with low frequency (1-2 trips per year)
