The Position

Main Purpose of the Position:

This position is dedicated to the development of Operational Excellence capabilities at the Hillsboro site.  The Operational Excellence (OE) group is charged with fostering a culture of continuous improvement to enable the organization to exceed its goals and objectives.  The OE group partners with the business to build proficiency in Lean Production System methodologies, acts as change agents and provides technical support to stabilize and optimize site operations. 

This position is on the leadership team of the Business Support and Operational Excellence department, and as such, plays a key role to ensure successful delivery of the site’s mission, goals and strategy. 

Responsibilities:

General

  • Active membership on the Business Support & Operational Excellence Leadership Team and the HTO Extended Leadership Team
  • Embody PT lean leadership principles and methods
  • Be an active and visible change agent, fostering a flexible and open mindset to new opportunities and continuous improvement
  • Create an environment of strong team spirit, high motivation, timely and effective communications, sense of urgency and inspire teams to achieve goals
  • Foster a strong learning culture within the organization
  • Strong networking skills and a focus on cross functional collaboration and customer service

     

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Operational Excellence team (OE Practitioners), fostering collaboration and innovation, responsible for staffing and supporting development 
  • Provides leadership for deployment and maturity of the Lean Production System (LPS) across the site
  • As a subject matter expert in the Lean Production System, and other continuous improvement methodologies, coach and mentor site leaders and employees in the application of these methods to address complex problems, while building their capability
  • Leads, and aligns resources in support of, focused improvement and optimization projects/initiatives to create value in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Engagement and Cost (SQDEC) across the site, leveraging the Lean Production System elements, methods and tools
  • Supports all areas of Hillsboro Technical Operations in identification and problem solving solutions
  • Facilitates dialogue between leaders of Operational Excellence projects and sponsors
  • Oversees business process management, including continuous improvement, via the site Business Process Managers with an end-to-end customer focused process approach
  • Manage and continuously improve the strategy deployment process, including support for the development, implementation and monitoring of Site Goals and KPI’s
  • Monitors organizational performance through key performance indicators
  • Effectively manage the OE cost center budget

     

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or equivalent
  • Certified in proven methodologies such as: LEAN/Six Sigma; Master Black Belt (or equivalent) desirable

Experience:

  • 8-15 years experience in industry, biotech/pharmaceutical experience a plus but not required,
  • Of which minimum 3 years of Operational Excellence related professional experience
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
  • Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement programs with quantifiable business results
  • Experience working in and influencing decisions in matrix organisations
  • Involvement in successfully implementing a lean production system, or other management system desirable

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent collaborator with cross-functional customers and network partners
  • Demonstrated history of developing others and building/leading high-performing teams
  • Advanced facilitation skills and change agent abilities
  • Ability to lead people indirectly and through influence
  • Demonstrated ability to coach individuals throughout all levels of an organization in problem solving, continuous improvement and lean/servant leadership
  • Advanced level knowledge of Root Cause Analysis or similar problem solving methodology
  • Excellent communication skills across a range of boundaries (regional and functional) and in a variety of settings (1-on-1, small groups, presentations)   
  • Deep analytical and problem solving skills
