Genentech has an opportunity for a Scientific Manager/Senior Scientific Manager to join the Next Generation Sequencing group in the Molecular Biology Department. The candidate will work in the NGS core lab which provides support for NGS technology to gRED and develops new applications in the area of genomics. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for overseeing NGS library generation process and sequencing for variety of NGS applications. The candidate will also be involved in the development and implementation of new NGS approaches, managing sequencing instruments, automation, scheduling and data delivery. Importantly, the candidate is expected to managing direct reports. You will also help coordinate sequence data collection using external vendors. In addition, you will be expected to participate in applying cutting edge genomics towards supporting discovery biology, target evaluation/validation and drug development studies.
Who you are
A BS/MS or PhD in Molecular Biology or a related discipline with ~5-10 years of industry and/or academic hands-on lab experience is essential. Specifically, 10-15 years with BS, 5-10 years with MS, 3-6 years with PhD plus 3-4 years in a supervisory role is recommended. Ideal candidate would have experience managing an NGS core lab. The candidate must have a strong preparation in basic molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry through undergraduate and/or graduate education. Expertise in the assay development, knowledge of sample preparation methods and considerable experience in NGS technology is required. The candidate is expected to design and execute experiments, interpret and troubleshoot results and give project updates. To be successful, the candidate should have excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel (multitasking) and coordinate internal and external resources is essential.
