The Position

Genentech is inviting applications for a Senior Scientist in the Department of Human Genetics, responsible for identifying novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers from the investigation of human genetic variation.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with experimental, clinical and bioinformatics scientists to inform the strategy for target and biomarker discovery
  • Designing and executing targeted genetic association studies along with interpretation of findings to uncover novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers of disease heterogeneity, progression, and treatment response
  • Development of methods required to fulfill these goals
  • Initiation of and participation in strategic external collaborations in pursuit of these goals
  • Participation in the formulation and execution of a strategic vision for the Department, including near- and long-term goals
  • Maintenance of an excellent publication record
  • Managing, mentoring, and monitoring the progress of reports, including both permanent staff and postdoctoral fellows
  • Regular presentation at internal and external meetings to audiences of diverse scientific backgrounds

We provide a highly collaborative community, and as such, you will interact closely with clinical development teams and other scientists in the areas of biomarkers, bioinformatics, and research discovery departments including Immunology, Neuroscience, Infectious Diseases, Cancer Immunotherapy, and Molecular Oncology.

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements.

  • MD or PhD, with postdoctoral and substantial (at least 5 years) subsequent research experience in the field of Human Genetics
  • Excellent record of scientific publications in top tier journals 
  • Substantial experience with genetic association studies;additional documented experience in translating genetic hits into biologically validated targets is a significant positive. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present and explain findings to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Highly motivated and demonstrated ability to collaborate with experimental scientists
  • Ability and interest to work on multiple disease phenotypes
