We are seeking an experienced Anatomic Pathologist to join the Genentech Research Pathology Department. The successful candidate will support research scientists who discover and develop drugs for the treatment of cancer, autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases, ocular and neurological diseases. These efforts can include supporting research scientists and clinicians who discover and develop biomarkers for pharmacodynamics and patient selection purposes in Phase I, II and III clinical trials.
The Department of Pathology is embedded within the Research Organization, and works within the Research and Development Organizations to ensure that strategies for the treatment and cure of disease are based on accurate analyses of pathogenetic mechanisms. The Department Pathologists collaborate with and provide pathology support to research scientists in the discovery, characterization, and preclinical development of novel therapeutic products for a variety of human diseases. These include diseases caused by malignant transformation, or dysfunction of the nervous, immune or endocrine systems. Pathologist support effort includes participation on teams devoted to the development of predictive and
prognostic markers in many of these diseases. At Genentech, pathologists have access to cutting edge equipment and techniques, and Pathology Core Laboratory facilities and personnel. The Core Laboratories include histology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, laser capture microdissection, clinical pathology, advanced light microscopy, including confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, and tissue banking, including tissue microarrays. The department has strong ties with academic and clinical groups both in the US and abroad. This is made possible by abundant opportunities for scholarly activity associated with pathology support responsibilities, and/or any research resources that may be allocated to the individual.
The successful candidate will be familiar with, if not expert in, molecular, cellular, and systems biology, computational pathology, and pathogenic mechanisms of human disease. He/she will have an interest in providing pathology support for drug discovery and biomarker discovery programs, and an appreciation for the need for potential flexibility in contributing support to programs in one or more discovery areas as needs arise. All Genentech Pathologists support work performed in both preclinical animal models and human tissue specimens. As such, experience in translational research is of benefit."
