The Position

Genentech is inviting applications for a Scientist or Senior scientist position (ranks equivalent to assistant or associate professor in academia) in the Department of Cancer Immunology (CI). Genentech believes that a commitment to scientific discovery is essential to our mission of drug discovery. Our scientists understand that cancer is a complex problem involving factors intrinsic to the tumor that drive its formation, together with tumor-extrinsic mechanisms — notably the vasculature and the immune system — that enable tumor survival. We understand the importance of attacking both types of mechanisms in a coordinated fashion. Building off of our early successes in the clinic with immunotherapy, we have built a dedicated effort to understand how a patient’s immune response can be activated to achieve durable benefit and potentially cure, extending our understanding of cancer immunology to pursue new and innovative targets.

We are seeking an outstanding individual to lead research efforts in the general domain of T cell biology. Strongest consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in molecular and synthetic immunology and whose research interests are relevant to the problem of T cell development, the generation of antigen-specific memory, and next generation adoptive cell therapies.

  • Be a part of a unique collaboration with colleagues in the T cell immunology group, the personalized cancer vaccine group, bioinformatics, clinical sciences, and oncology biomarkers.
  • Be expected to publish their research work in high quality journals.

Who You Are

  • PhD, MD, DVM, or MD/DVM-PhD with at least 3 years of relevant post-doctoral research experience in immunology
  • Demonstrated accomplishments, as evidenced by first or senior authored publications in top-tier journals
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential as is the ability to lead a laboratory group and oversee research programs across cross-functional research teams.
