We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join the Murthy lab in the Department of Cancer Immunology, Genentech. The postdoctoral fellow will initiate an independent research project to understand the immune response in cancer, chronic inflammation and anti-microbial immunity. The Murthy lab collaborates with several investigators at Genentech and beyond, applying proteomic, genetic and in vivo tools to study the consequences of altered immuno-modulation in chronic inflammatory diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and cancer. We utilize murine models and cutting edge CRISPR-mediated gene-editing methods in primary cells to better understand human immunity. Currently, the lab is focused on regulatory pathways identified by genome-wide association studies of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. These include autophagy, cell death pathways, cellular/metabolic stress responses and signal regulators such as phosphatases and ubiquitin pathway modifiers. We are also establishing forward-genetics approaches to identify novel regulators of the innate immune response in primary myeloid cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells.
The candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, immunology and signaling. A recently completed Ph.D. in the field(s) of molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology and/or genetics is required. The candidate will also demonstrate a record of scientific innovation and accomplishment by a strong publication record, examples of collaborative work and an aptitude for innovation using novel/emerging technologies. Formal training & knowledge of autoimmune diseases, innate and adaptive immunity and human genetics is desirable but not essential.
