Genentech seeks statisticians with training and interest in exploratory data analysis related to drug development in disease areas such as inflammation, ophthalmology, and neuroscience. You will define strategies and analyze data to generate impactful insights on our molecules and diseases to support drug research and development, advance science and enable personalized patient care. You will work with a variety of data types including genetics, imaging and digital health data arising from a wide range of clinical data sources. A successful candidate will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop project strategies, access relevant data sources, analyze data and ensure appropriate interpretation. Teamwork, effective communication and leadership skills are essential.
Serves as Biostatistics representative on clinical development teams, partners with cross-functional members and provides statistical and strategic input on clinical development plans
Looks beyond the statistical aspects, collaborating actively to promote rigor in the planning, conduct, analysis, interpretation and reporting of clinical and nonclinical experiments to meet project objectives, including exploratory project activities related to personalized healthcare
Identifies the key scientific questions and pro-actively defines strategies concerning data needs and access, analysis, and interpretation in order to address scientific gaps and find opportunities to improve drug development
Collaborates and consults with biomarker and imaging scientists in support of clinical development projects and presentations/publications
Consults with and provides statistical training to key stakeholders
Contributes to the biostatistics/scientific community by partnering with senior staff, mentoring junior colleagues, and participating in internal/external initiatives
Keeps abreast of new developments in statistics, drug development, and regulatory guidance through literature review, conference attendance and professional activities
MSc or PhD in statistics/biostatistics or similar qualification in a quantitative data science discipline
Sound knowledge of theoretical and applied statistics and machine learning
Proficiency with statistical software such as R
Excellent data visualization skills
Ability to work independently on multiple projects
Basic understanding of biology and experience with different biomarker technologies
Effective communication and collaboration skills, including good statistical consulting and problem-solving skills
Ability to present complex results in a clear and concise manner that is accessible to a diverse audience of quantitative, experimental, clinical and biomarker scientists
Prior experience in clinical drug development is preferred
Good knowledge of English in a business environment
