The Position

The Department of Biomedical Imaging (BMI) at Genentech invites applications for a full-time MRI scientist to lead our state-of-art preclinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging Laboratory. The Department is a comprehensive imaging research facility that includes MRI (Bruker 7T and 9.4T systems), micro-CT (in vivo and ex vivo), ultrasound, PET/CT, and a range of in vivo optical imaging technologies.

The position will broadly focus on the application of MRI to provide structural, microstructural and physiological endpoints for preclinical models of disease and quantify alterations associated with therapy.We seek a highly motivated scientist with extensive MRI experience to drive preclinical MRI research efforts to support Genentech’s Research Pipeline. The scientist will develop and apply advanced MR imaging and data analysis techniques to address research questions across multiple therapeutic areas that may also have clinical translation application.

With appointed to the Scientist (Technology) track within BMI, you are expected to:

  • Drive development and application of advanced MRI acquisition and analysis techniques to extract disease biology insights and monitor therapies
  • Actively promote scientific and technical innovation collaboratively with other members of BMI and Research
  • Direct and support publications in high quality scientific, technical or medical journals
  • Represent BMI on pre-clinical and clinical teams, providing translational imaging support for pipeline projects
  • Effectively manage internal and external scientific collaborations
  • Manage and mentor direct reports in a supportive and inclusive environment
  • Participate and thrive in an interactive, team-oriented culture

Who You Are:

  • A scientific leader with a consistent and outstanding record of creativity and performance in experimental MRI as evident by:
    • A PhD degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. bio/biomedical engineering, physics, biophysics, or similar)
    • Postdoctoral experience in basic or translational preclinical MRI research
    • A strong record of publication and past research accomplishments
  • Background in Immunology, Neuroscience or Oncology is desired
