As Roche Partnering team, we are searching for a Genentech Research and Early Development Partnering Head, who will manage and develop an agile organization/matrixed team of business development professionals that have the responsibility for sourcing novel science and leading/executing partnering transactions in support of Genentech Research and Early Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination with Pharma Partnering Leadership Team, Global Therapeutic Area Heads, Global Technology, Global Personalized Healthcare Head, Strategic Partnering and Transaction Excellence to assign, oversee and execute upon new business development activities
  • Providing perspective and general support related to cross-therapeutic area partnering opportunities
  • Providing reporting and acting as a dedicated point-of-contact with the Genentech Research and Early Development Leadership Team, including Genentech Research and Early Development Head, related to all Genentech Research and Early Development-driven partnering efforts
  • Participating on behalf of Pharma Partnering in Genentech Research and Early Development governance meetings (e.g. Research Review Committee, Early Stage Portfolio Committee and Genentech Research and Early Development Leadership Team)
  • Contributing to the portfolio and strategic Genentech Research and Early Development leadership decisions
  • Coordinating with the Pharma Research and Early Development and Product Development and Global Product Strategy Heads, including exploring opportunities for collaboration
  • Contributing to leadership alignment across the therapeutic areas and the Pharma Partnering Heads of the respective areas including Genentech Research and Early Development, Pharma Research and Early Development and Product Strategy and Global Product Strategy organizations
  • Managing in collaboration and alignment with the Pharma Research and Early Development and the Product Development and Global Product Strategy Head and the Business Development professionals who work in a matrix setting (could be up to a dozen or more employees)
  • Making sure that proper staffing is provided at all times to meet organizational needs
  • Providing learning and development opportunities for the matrix employees

Qualifications:

  • Recognized and experienced business leader in the life sciences industry with profound leadership experience
  • Seasoned business development professional with 12-15 years’ minimum experience
  • Substantial experience in managing and developing large teams
  • Strong scientific background, including a MD or PhD and substantial experience collaborating with Senior Research and Development Leadership Teams in pharma
  • Skilled in communicating and collaborating across internal pharma business units
  • Ability to work in a global, complex cross-functional environment with individuals at all levels of the organization
