The Position

An opportunity exists in the Department of Biomarker Discovery for a highly motivated and talented scientist in the areas of neuroinflammation and ophthalmology. The investigator will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge translational research that supports new biomarker and target discovery in patients with neurological and ophthalmic diseases, understanding the effects of new experimental therapies on disease pathways, and defining patients most likely to benefit from targeted therapies. The successful candidate will run a laboratory, direct scientific staff, and will be expected to publish their original findings in top tier peer reviewed journals. They will also closely collaborate with discovery scientists in Immunology and Neuroscience, and participate on clinical development teams. The position will report to the head of the Biomarker Discovery Department.


Applicants must have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree and at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience in an area of biology relevant to translational disease research. Preference will be given to candidates with research and/or clinical experience in the areas of inflammation, neuroinflammation, biomarkers, and/or bioinformatics. The candidate must have demonstrated a record of sustained scientific accomplishments as evidenced by publications in top-tier journals and presentations of their work at relevant scientific conferences. Candidates from industry should have made significant and creative efforts contributing to the advancement of understanding of disease biology and the process of biomarker and diagnostics development. All candidates should exhibit evidence of collaborative interactions and the potential to organize and lead a productive research team.
