The Position

Start Date: As soon as possible/May 2019

Length of Assignment: 1 Year

Work Hours: 40 hours per week

Position Purpose:

The position of MDH Business Operations Intern supports the operational activities and business management of the Data Access & Curation team.  The position analyzes key business processes, identifies gaps, issues and bottlenecks and brings solutions and ideas for the optimization of the overall DAC operations.  The selected candidate will deliver also a communication strategy and awareness campaign for the Medical Data Hub.


The Data Access & Curation (aka, formerly Medical Data Hub) has grown and evolved from the "start-up" mode.  DAC customers, stakeholders, vendors and users continue to increase and the DAC has the need and urgency to design and implement scalable operations.  The DAC will also embark in an awareness campaign and educational process of all stakeholders across Roche with the goal to increase level of engagement and continue to invest in key partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Global Business Processes

  • Design, implementation and optimization of global business processes 
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify the best options for a automated solution(s)
  • Complete the collection and analysis of data required for data-driven decisions and for the identification of strategic KPIs and metrics
  • Utilize effective methodology and visualization platforms to communicate and educate the user community about MDH  business process 

Communication Strategy and Plan

  • Design, develop and deliver the Communication Strategy/Plan and Awareness Campaign
  • Develop the DAC value proposition and value message
  • Contribute to all activities related to stakeholder engagement and management 
  • Optimize the DAC website and related online documentation

DAC Business Management Support

  • Support DAC Business Management activities and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions to achieve DAC goals and objectives
  • Manage the repository of all contracts for the data assets in the MDH (tracking, DACN dashboards, expirations, post-expirations actions, Jira tickets, etc.)
  • Partner with user community, stakeholders and technical specialists 
  • Project manage the optimization of DAC training offerings and coordinate trainings

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a highly motivated individual with strong analytical and quantitative, problem solving, organization, communication and presentation skills.
  • Have experience in transforming data into compelling insights and strategies.  
  • Have demonstrated ability to identify and synthesize reliable and current information sources into a comprehensive and accurate understanding of business reality
  • Have a track record of integrating and synthesizing findings from multiple sources to enable informed strategic decision making and business insights 
  • Work well individually and demonstrate effective people/team skills
  • Excellent relationship building with internal/external customers, as well as team members, is essential
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal and persuasion skills
  • Have a passion for healthcare industry 


  • A Bachelor’s in business administration, engineering, science or a related field is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is a must
  • Proficiency in Visio or business process development and visualization tools is a must
  • Highly organized, reliable and proactive
  • Effective communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Spotfire and/or Tableau visualization software is a plus
  • Passionate about business and scientific intelligence
  • Experience in collection and analysis of data
  • Ability to work with a team and independently in a fast paced environment
