The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Software Engineer who will join a cutting edge genomics group that provides Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology support to Genentech’s Research and Early Development (gRED). The successful candidate will work on development of bioinformatics approaches and tools for NGS data management (LIMS), data processing and data analysis pipeline. You will have responsibilities in supporting core NGS lab processes which involve ensuring data integrity, data sharing infrastructure as well as maintenance and improvement of existing software tools and analysis pipelines. In addition, you will have an opportunity to develop web applications for NGS needs and provide support for data analysis for different emerging NGS technologies.

The candidate should be passionate about genomics and enthusiastic about working in a scientific environment that is related to drug discovery and development. You should have a flexible and learning mindset, be able to work in a fast changing and demanding environment and have a strong desire to pursue creative solutions to challenging problems.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS, MS in bioinformatics, computer science or related field
  • Expertise in developing and supporting NGS data processing and analysis pipeline
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Perl, Python, R and Bash
  • Knowledge of databases such as RMDB Oracle, MySQL and SQL query languages
  • Familiarity with NGS genomic data analysis tools such as samtools, BWA, GATK, Bioconductor R packages
  • Experience with Unix/Linux HPC computing environment
  • Solid biological domain knowledge and data analysis skills
  • Strong communication skills, ability to present complex results and work well with others
