The Position

The Biological Technologies (BT) Department at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and implementing new technologies for in vitro binding assay development and the integration of those technologies with appropriate automation platforms. The position has a strong emphasis on the use of surface plasmon resonance technology (Biacore). Working in a highly collaborative environment, the incumbent in this position will solve difficult technical challenges and work simultaneously on multiple projects. 

Responsibilities:

• Develop, optimize, perform and troubleshoot in vitro binding assays using surface plasmon resonance (BiaCore) or other technologies in support of clinical products
• Share technical knowledge and transfer the methods to testing group through effective training for analysts
• Perform testing as needed in support of process development and product characterization
• Author and/or perform technical review of documents such as SOPs, test procedures, protocols and technical reports
• Author reports in support of IND/BLA regulatory filings, and support collaborations with other groups/sites
• Collaborate within Genentech/Roche and with outside vendors and partners to evaluate new technologies, platforms, and instruments, or initiating new projects
• Deliver presentations at internal and external meetings
• Assist in routine lab and instrument maintenance

Qualifications

The right candidate will have the following skills and experience. The level of the position will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

• MS or PhD degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related discipline with 5 years (MS) or 3 years (PhD) of relevant research experience.
• Experience with analysis of protein interactions by surface plasmon resonance (Biacore) and related methods.
• Understanding of various technologies and the opportunities to apply those techniques in support of bioassay development, biological characterization, process validation, and comparability assessment.
• Familiarity with current industry practice, clinical and commercial quality requirements, and global regulatory guidelines.
• Demonstrated success in strategic prioritization, ability to drive for results, innovative thinking, and effective decision-making.
• Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to review and approve reports, manuscripts, and regulatory submissions.
• Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to present scientific results and strategic objectives clearly and concisely.
