The Position

We have an opportunity for a talented and innovative Scientist/Senior Scientist to join the Structure Elucidation Group in Small Molecule Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The successful candidate will explore and implement new technologies to support the development of novel small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of significant unmet medical needs.  This individual will work collaboratively with scientists from the Analytical, Process Chemistry, and Pharmaceutics groups to qualitatively and quantitatively investigate side-products, impurities, and degradants associated with drug substance and drug product research and development.  Responsibilities will also include analysis of chemically complex excipients and novel delivery vehicles for small molecule therapeutics.  This candidate must have the ability to independently design, plan, and execute protocols to resolve issues related to unknown compound identification.  The successful candidate will be excited by research at the cutting edge of nuclear magnetic resonance, be able to identify new applications of NMR that can be applied to small molecule structure elucidation problems, apply computational methods to complement interpretation of NMR data, and ultimately drive innovation to solve structural problems in pharmaceutical development. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a sustained record of productivity and substantive scientific contributions as determined by consistent publications in high-impact journals and presentations at national and international scientific conferences.  Highly motivated candidates with a passion for innovation are particularly encouraged to apply.

We are seeking applicants with the following attributes. The level of the position will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or Natural Products, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years industrial experience.
  • A deep understanding of NMR theory, application, and instrumentation.
  • Broad experience with state-of-the-art solution-state NMR techniques to elucidate unknown small molecule chemical structures.
  • Experience using molecular orbital theory and density functional theory calculations to aid in the interpretation of NMR properties of molecules.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver professionally written scientific documentation, plus practiced oral presentation skills.
  • A strong desire to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Evidence of sustained productivity and independent contributions in science, as demonstrated by a strong publication and presentation record.
  • Be highly organized, motivated, work independently in a collaborative team-oriented setting, and have strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
