Senior Manager, Government Affairs (GA)

The general purpose of the Senior Manager role is to support Government Affairs’ (GA) advocacy efforts by executing a range of communication strategies while ensuring strong alignment to overarching internal activities and objectives.

The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing advocacy materials including, but not limited to, policy position statements, talking points, and presentations in order to advance stated goals and priorities. In addition, this role will manage internal communication platforms to ensure the timely delivery of information on issues impacting the business, as well as updates on GA’s engagement strategies. This role will also partner with the Genentech Political Action Committee (PAC) lead to implement and execute the PAC communications strategy.

This will be accomplished by working closely with a host of internal and external partners and stakeholders requiring strong relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Sample Job Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Draft advocacy materials including, but not limited to, policy position statements, talking points, and presentations to support department initiatives and advance GA’s priorities.
  • Manage GA’s internal communication platforms including, but not limited to, intranet portal website, mobile application, Google+ communities, and newsletters.
  • Ensure successful launch of GA mobile application, manage content delivery and workflow, oversee future phase modifications and enhancements, and develop/execute strategy for uptake and utilization.
  • In partnership with PAC lead, implement and execute communications strategy to ensure relevant information reaches PAC membership in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Design strategies to facilitate cross-department information and knowledge-sharing to ensure strong collaboration across GA functions.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to translate the organization’s value and thought leadership into impactful and engaging content in multiple formats (e.g., online, print, video).
  • Develop and maintain highly collaborative and productive relationships with internal customers, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Implement innovative strategies to engage and inform internal and external audiences while ensuring strong alignment to overarching internal activities.
  • Contribute to innovation and process improvement by working with the team to review and implement new, leading-edge and streamlined communication and engagement strategies, tools, plans, and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is required
  • 6 or more years of communications experience (including but not limited to the planning, development, and execution of communications strategies and plans, meeting facilitation, execution monitoring), preferably some of which has been gained in government affairs, public policy, and/or advocacy
  • Experience creating and deploying targeted content that generates measurable ROI
  • Demonstrated ability to use digital channels effectively to deliver content.
  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google suite.
