The Bioinformatics & Computational Biology Department within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) seeks a motivated individual to join our team of talented engineers and analysts to create transformational software that assists in discovering groundbreaking therapeutics. As an informatics leader and senior software engineer, you will be able to understand the needs of our distinguished scientists and interface with key stakeholders in order to define and deliver informatics solutions that enable scientific innovation.

Work closely with diverse scientific stakeholders to understand and identify areas of unmet informatics needs.
Identify opportunities for filling these unmet needs via process improvements, software projects or a combination of both.
Work effectively with a geographically diverse team and collaborators, ensuring clear and timely communication among all parties.
Ensure the solutions we deliver solve current problems, but are flexible enough to address future scientific and technological advances.
Who You Are
You have a BS degree, and preferably an MS/PhD in a scientific discipline.
You have at least 10 years experience in software development and informatics leadership, preferably in a drug discovery and development environment.
You have at least 5 years experience managing teams.
You enjoy working with customers and are passionate about collaborating with them to deliver them the greatest value through a combination of process improvement and software solutions.
You have experience in all aspects of the software development process, including requirements gathering, architecture, design, implementation, release, and maintenance.
You are pragmatic about the tradeoffs between features, quality, and timeliness.
You have a strong desire to follow software development best practices.
You are comfortable working across the full application stack.
You are interested in exploring new technologies and processes, along with determining how they would fit well in our environment.
You are able to present, both verbally and written, your ideas and work to diverse audiences, including scientists, technical colleagues, and executives.
You have experience and are comfortable performing many roles on a team, including individual contributor, analyst, and leader.
You are comfortable working in a scientific environment, especially one that is related to drug development.
