The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sr. Scientific Manager to lead our genotyping facility and a team of 10 members in the Molecular Biology Department. The candidate will be expected to implement, and further develop, new technology relevant for genome analysis, including next-generation sequencing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversight and day-to-day management of a high-throughput, highly automated genotyping lab with expectations of a quick turnaround time
  • Implementation of new technology and automation to ensure group stays at the cutting edge
  • Explore possibilities for expanding the scope of the lab beyond genotyping of animals
  • Support and facilitate employee career development within a core facility setting

Who you are

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in molecular biology or a similar scientific field with a strong publication track-record in disciplines such as molecular biology, genetics, genomics, and/or synthetic biology.
  • The ideal candidate has expertise in quantitative (including digital) PCR platforms as well as next-generation sequencing, with hands-on experience setting up and/or running an automated laboratory. Working knowledge of bioinformatics and NGS analysis pipelines is a significant plus.
  • Prior experience (from academia and/or industry) leading and developing a team of 5+ employees is a must, and strong inter-personal skills is an absolute requirement.
  • Qualified applicants will have very strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to work co-operatively in a fast-paced team environment as well as a strong interest in continued technology development.
  • Qualified applicants should have strong leadership skills and passionate about mentorship and career development for department members.
