The Position

Length: 10-12 weeks

Start Date: Summer 2020

The Pipeline and Portfolio Planning (PPP) group, within Portfolio & Product Development Strategy (PPS), supports strategic decision-making for the development portfolio by providing portfolio insights and supporting planning processes for the global organization of Roche and Genentech. As a trusted partner to teams and decision makers, PPP delivers robust portfolio strategies, guides investment decisions, provides portfolio insights and analytics, and supports decision making to maximize Roche late stage portfolio value for the benefit of patients and Roche. PPP provides a unique opportunity to interact with cross-functional teams and see drug development through multiple perspectives. 

Previous MBA  Interns within PPP have contributed to Genentech’s disease area development strategies, performed analyses of factors that may lead to acceleration or delay of current pipeline molecules, estimated the market potential of Roche products in emerging markets, and assessed the role of Business Development in meeting Genentech’s goals. As part of the MBA Internship Program, PPP Interns will have exposure to senior leaders throughout the organization and will also have the opportunity to network with other functions across Genentech, such as Commercial, Product Development, Finance and Business Development.


Preferred qualifications for MBA Internship positions include but are not limited to:

  • At least 2 to 5 years industry or consulting experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals prior to graduate school.
  • Experience in portfolio management, strategy development, drug development, market assessment or consulting is a plus 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in a cross-functional environment
  • Demonstrated analytic and strategic skills; ability to craft and deliver clear presentations to management and teams.
  • Strong communicator; ability to build cross-functional partnerships and influence without authority
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong financial acumen (e.g., valuation and decision analysis)
  • Ability to identify, scope and manage strategic projects; maintain responsibility for deliverables and timelines, adapt to shifting priorities, and manage stakeholder relationships and expectations
  • Understanding of relevant IT tools, systems and software.
