The Position

Start Date: Summer 2020

Work Hours: 40 hours per week 

Location: South San Francisco Campus

Length of Assignment: 3 months

Education Level: Bachelor of Science (Sophomore Level or Higher, or Recent Grad), Master of Science (1st or 2nd Year or recent grad), PhD Student (pursuing PhD, not completed)

Job Description:

Development Sciences’ core mission is to translate scientific hypotheses into therapeutic possibilities by enabling the discovery and development of safe and effective therapeutics at optimal doses in relevant populations.

Providing expertise in toxicology and working closely with pathology, we design, conduct and integrate findings of toxicology programs in support of drug candidate development at Genentech. Translatability of these findings to human patients is our key objective. In meeting this mission we are committed to the well considered and ethical use of animals.

The intern will support a Toxicology project in Safety Assessment to elucidate mechanism of toxicity for a biologic. Responsibilities would include:  

1) Compile all in vitro and in vivo toxicology and investigative data (including RNAseq of liver) 

2) Perform literature searches on target pathway 

3) Work cross-functionally with a team on possible hypotheses for toxicity 

4) Determine need for additional testing and ultimately contributing to a publication.


Preferred specializations include having a Toxicology background and experience working on a hypothesis-based research project. The candidate should also ideally have some experience with in vivo tox of biotherapeutics, in vitro/in vivo experience on mechanisms of liver toxicity, cytokines, and/or RNAseq experience.
