The Head, Director of Strategy and Business Operatins for the Field Medical Team plays a key role in the effective functioning and strategic success of the Field Medical team. This role serves as the “Chief of Staff” to the VP Field Medical Lead and is focused on partnering with Commercial Customer Engagement Team, CMG Field Leadership, Squad Leads, Analytics Teams, and helps to support all aspects of field medical team execution – and liaise with the Scientific Operations team within USMA (to execute on the operations team).
The Head, Director of Strategy and Business Operations for Field Medical will work in sync with the VP Field Medical Head, Medical Affairs Executive Director Lead, the Region MED Heads, and the Heads of TA MSLs to ensure execution of the customer engagement model. This individual is accountable for delivering on the enterprise field medical team in total (MED and MSLs) to support driving business performance across the Genentech portfolio, and identifying opportunities to strengthen the infrastructure of the ecosystem teams to ensure a strong team and customer experience through effective utilization of tools, resources, account planning, and training. This role is both strategic and tactical, requiring a nimble thinker with strong interpersonal skills, communication, business acumen and the ability to shift between diverse priorities adeptly.
Serves as a thought partner to the Field Medical VP by challenging and strengthening thinking and ensuring broad view of key considerations/business dynamics.
Supports VP Field Lead to ensure seamless execution of key milestones to evolve and strengthen ecosystem model
Delivers strategic and holistic view of medical business performance and key learnings across ecosystem teams to continue to adapt and iterate on the CE model; considers potential solutions in addressing opportunities and challenges
Contributes to Scientific Operations Team to help shape the future operations function in USMA
Orchestrates and executes on “connective tissue” between MEDs, Ecosystems and TA MSL Heads
Develops presentations and communications on behalf of the VP Field Medical Lead; Orchestrates Field Medical Team Calls
Identifies new and innovative ways to support meetings/communications and virtual customer engagements through new digital and technology solutions
Supports efforts in cultivating an environment that makes the Field Medical team a great place to work through leading Culture & Values for field medical – as well as helping to champion and develop important leadership initiatives (A2M, Everyone Deserves a Great Manager leadership development)
Collaborates across a broad set of stakeholders spanning all levels of the organization, and helps to integrate Field Medical / Customer Engagement with other functions serving as a key thought partner
Graduate-level degree (e.g., masters or doctoral degree) particularly in business or the life sciences
Strong medical-scientific background. Experience in multiple therapeutic areas is a plus.
10-15 years of medical affairs, science and/or drug development and project management experience.
Thorough understanding of the FDA, OIG, HIPAA and other guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry and Genentech, including USMA SOPs.
Significant pharmaceutical/biotech/consulting, commercial, strategic, and/or analytical experience
Significant field leadership experience, leading and managing teams
Business travel, by air, train, car, etc. is required for regular internal and external meetings
