The Position

Primary Role

The Department of Oncology Biomarker Development (OBD) is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist / Scientist to contribute the development and execution of the biomarker strategies to support the development of Roche/Genentech’s oncology portfolio.

The individual will be responsible for translating the preclinical hypotheses into personalized healthcare (PHC) strategy for the respective therapeutics, and generating insights from clinical biomarker data for reverse translation.  The incumbent will lead the biomarker efforts to better understand the mechanisms of drug action, mechanisms of response/resistance to the treatment, and disease biology.  The successful candidate will work extensively with companion diagnostic managers, biomarker operation managers, and other biomarker scientists in OBD, and will collaborate closely with colleagues in Research, clinical science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and data scientists across Roche/Genentech.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of biomarker strategy for one or multiple oncology programs
  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of clinical biomarker data
  • Publish in high quality scientific, technical or medical journals and represent OBD externally through presentations at key internal and external meetings
  • Drive scientific and technical innovation collaboratively with other members of the Department
  • Develop collaborative relationship with key investigators and opinion leaders

Requirements

  • PhD, MD or PhD/MD degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. molecular biology, cancer biology, genetics, genomics, cell biology, developmental biology) with experience post-PhD studies in either an academic or industry setting
  • Preferred candidates will have experience in oncology and cancer signaling pathways
  • Preferred candidates will have quantitative and bioinformatics skills in analyzing large scale data sets
  • Proven track record of cutting-edge research and / or clinically-related science as evidenced by first- or senior-authored publications in top-tier journals
  • Strong collaboration, organizational and communication skills combined with patience, persistence and a strong passion to drive clinical innovation to improve outcomes for patients
