The Position

The Principal Data Strategist will support all PTA business functions: Asset Strategy, Asset LifeCycle Management, LPS & Capability building, Sustainability, Technology & Excellence and Project Delivery with insights gained from analyzing company data. The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. They must have strong experience defining the overall PTA data strategy including using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

 

This role is responsible for collaboratively developing and implementing a cohesive multi-year technology and analytics strategy, plus a roadmap to: enable data-driven decisions, and gain cost efficiencies across all PTA functions. This leader will also partner with the Roche network globally to share learnings and drive a ubiquitous experience across various sites where applicable. This role requires developing and delivering executive level presentations for PTA LT and PTA eLT.

  

KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Work with PTA stakeholders, PTA LT, PTA eLT and other business leaders as well as partner (PT Digital Transformation, PTIX, PTI etc.) stakeholders to create a digital vision for the enterprise, and to identify the opportunities for differentiating digital capabilities and solutions, perform proof of concepts and develop full scale implementation plans for technology enablement to drive productivity, improve user experience and gain cost efficiencies.


  • Set foundational strategy for digital analytics and data management and create a Digital Analytics Center of Excellence. Serve as a digital and analytical strategy consultant with stakeholders across PT. Promote greater understanding of technology and data analytics and share that knowledge across PT sites. 

  • Define, promote and provide support for common data platforms and visualization tools building the groundwork for a high performing digital analytics team that will shepherd a measurement framework, operationalize reports and dashboards, provide insights to inform business decisions, and ensure data quality. Manage teams of decision science analysts and digital experts who perform hands-on customer analytics and modeling to deliver incremental business value.


  • Collaborate with PTA LT, PTA eLT and other stakeholders to prioritize initiatives based on business value, monitor the progress, and track the business impact of each initiative. Build and maintain a network of external partners, including online communities and technology vendors with informational intensive/advanced industries.  Build and maintain internal capabilities to address emerging technology in the digital space (e.g. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IOT) etc.)


  • Work closely with PTA LT, PTA eLT to enable functional areas to be at the forefront of data-driven competitiveness. Lead, design, create and implement data structure and data governance to gain efficiencies and cost savings, and improve the user experience and drive a culture of innovation.


  • Perform Proof of Concepts and full-scale deployments of analytic solutions (prescriptive and predictive) in close partnership with business functions.


  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with the IT organization to execute the digital strategy.
Collaborate with PTA and PTIX stakeholders to understand enterprise analytics use cases and provide recommendations for improved predictive and prescriptive analytics.

  • Mine and analyze data from data sources to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.
Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.


  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets. Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.Develop   processes and tools to monitor and analyze business performance and data accuracy.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business & Technology with 12+ years of relevant technical and business experience. Minimum of 8 years, post academia, of professional experience delivering models, algorithms, and automated tools that drive business decisions and improve business outcomes.
  • Experience in the Pharma Industry is preferred.

  • Proven ability to translate and communicate complex study designs and findings to diverse audiences at all levels of the organization (written and verbal). Exceptional at preparing and delivering communications at the executive level.


  • Deep subject matter expertise with proven ability to transfer this expertise across the business; proven track record of setting new standards, advancing the field of expertise (internally and externally) and engaging & influencing executive leaders internally and externally.

  • Demonstrated track record of developing and execution of digital journeys, data science research projects, data analyses (e.g., real world data, surveys) with publications and presentations. Documented track record of creating innovative data solutions; passion for delivering outcomes, demonstrated strong data analytic skills
.

  • Understanding of Data Engineering, Data Governance, Data Modeling, ETL and the ability to mine new data sources (API or web scraping). Experience with QlikView/QlikSense, Tableau, or any other BI tools; familiarity with SQL, Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2, Redshift, etc.), database, table design joins, data aggregation, data validation, etc.


  • Proven strategic leadership experience, including the ability to facilitate alignment across multiple business groups, develop business cases, and create and implement technology strategy. Demonstrated ability to translate strategic opportunities and emerging technology solutions into executable plans.


  • Proven success with rapidly developing digital journey prototypes that can be iterated with business stakeholders. Demonstrated experience as a passionate advocate for end users and for providing amazing customer service.

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Experienced working in a matrix, global organization. Ability to deliver results in an ambiguous, complex global network using agile methodologies.

  • Ability to handle complexity and numerous priorities/projects, lead-by-influence across the organization, and build support behind strategies and proposals.

  • Exercises independent and creative thinking by recommending strategic and tactical approaches supporting our organization’s strategic intent.


  • Outstanding internal consulting and influencing skills, highly effective teamwork and collaboration skills.


  • Up to 10% of travel may be required towards industry events and networking.
