South San Francisco, California
We are seeking a highly talented Senior Scientific Researcher to join the Department of Antibody Engineering. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to multidisciplinary teams focused on the delivery of therapeutic molecules to Genentech’s large molecule pipeline.
This hire will focus on engineering antibodies to overcome limitations of existing medicines and design next generation biotherapeutic formats to treat cancer and other unmet medical needs. The engineering challenges will include the recruitment of unique properties to endow therapeutic molecules with novel or superior activities, achieving targeted localization, or increasing the therapeutic index. The position requires the candidate to perform hands-on laboratory science. The engineering of antibodies will be carried out through rational design or display techniques. Subsequent cell-based or SPR-based binding assays and/or functional assays will validate the successful engineering.
Who You Are
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Molecular or Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Immunology, Biochemistry, or related disciplines, or a BS/MS degree with 8+ years of research experience. Cell biology and assay experience are highly desirable. Protein engineering skills are a plus. Prior antibody engineering or drug development expertise are not essential and the position provides an excellent environment to build these skills.
A desire to independently work in a cross-functional and collaborative environment is a requirement. Excellent communication skills are a requisite, including presentation of data on project and department level. The candidate will have demonstrated the ability to learn new techniques, problem solve, and have a sustained record of productivity. Self-starters with a passion for innovation and commitment to translational science are encouraged to apply.
