The Position

The Department of Cellular and Tissue Genomics within Genentech Research and Early Development is seeking a highly talented, creative and driven Scientist to develop next-generation biomarker tissue assays to advance biological and diagnostic discovery to advance development of innovative therapeutics and personalized health care. The scope of activities will span biological disciplines, including immunology, molecular oncology, cancer immunology, angiogenesis, neurobiology, host-pathogen interactions and regenerative medicine and across multiple disease areas of focus in cancer, immunology, neuroscience, infectious diseases and ophthalmology. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead a basic and applied research group to discover, develop and implement development of agile research tools and diagnostics assays including, but not limited to next generation tissue profiling using multiplex spatial sequencing methods. 

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership, coordination and implementation of research, engineering, and operation efforts tailored to next generation biomarker tissue assays in collaboration with Neuroscience, Molecular Oncology, Cancer Immunology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Pathology, Biomolecular Imaging, Biomarker Discovery, Biomarker Development, Software Engineering and data teams. 

  • Development of strategies, identification, discovery and implementation of new technology offerings for biomarker tissue assays and diagnostics. Maintain knowledge in the field through new and existing collaborations with academia, technology partners and CROs on implementation of new technologies.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. with relevant postdoctoral experience with both experimental and computational expertise in spatial genomics

  • Strong publication record of impactful discoveries that reveal novel biological pathways and/or advanced technologies to enable biological discovery

  • Proficient in bioinformatics including high throughput omics and imaging data analysis visualization, and interpretation Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team comprised of diverse expertise

  • Excellent mentoring skills across all levels

  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills
