The Buyer/Planner will work with external suppliers, Research, DevSci, PTD, Material Operations, and Procurement departments to purchase gSupply/reagent inventory and ensure appropriate materials are available to meet customer needs. Accountabilities will include demand forecasting, responsibility for setting up and generating materials management metrics, procurement activities and leadership/support of cross-functional projects. This role will be responsible for fostering strong partnerships with our stakeholders, maintain excellent communication. In addition, the Buyer/Planner will manage the warehouse inventory and be the subject matter expert for the gSupply/Reagent inventory management system.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain/improve inventory process that minimizes costs for inventory and reduces unnecessary handling and shrinks logistics costs while ensuring timely and successful delivery of appropriate materials to meet customer needs. Manage warehouse inventory flow and maintain the warehouse in a lean way. (Approximate % of time: 30%)
Use existing inventory management system and appropriate forecasting methodology to procure materials. Be SME for new inventory management tool and maximize utilization of inventory management system and ensure conformance with customers’ needs. Identify underperforming areas in the supply chain and suggest improvements or resolutions to problems. (Approximate % of time: 20%)
Manage direct vendor purchases. Sets up and create orders, analyze data, resolve inquiries and discrepancies. Serve as gSupply/Reagent liaison with vendors to address quality issues. Work with vendors for backorder/standing order and price quotation. Work with g2g team for purchase order and invoicing. (Approximate % of time: 40%)
In partnership with Research, Dev Sci and PTD customers, ensures effective gSupply inventory management plan that allows to further decrease material and logistical costs for their organizations.
Maintains routine interactions and partnership with managerial level Research, Dev Sci, PTD and Procurement staff for purchasing issues. Maintains regular contact with managerial level customers to monitor satisfaction.
In partnership with Procurement, develops and cultivates external supplier relationships.
In partnership with Material Operation and Procurement department, develops strategy and best plan for future storage of lab consumables/reagents.
In partnership with Supply Chain Analyst for forecasting the demand and providing numbers for department efficiency.
Education and Experience Requirements:
BS/BA with 2-4 years of relevant work experience in materials/planning/coordination roles.
Procurement experience with enterprise level planning
Able to work autonomously from established goals and strategic direction. Must be able to cope with multiple priorities and ambiguity.
Works under very general supervision with guidance with more detailed instructions on new assignments. Works with manager to establish priorities and timelines.
Seeks guidance from supervisor as needed when determining appropriate courses of action.
Effective presentation, communications, networking, and influencing skills.
Demonstrate strong computer skills, proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Visual basic / programming is a plus.
Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational skills: has proven abilities to work effectively and efficiently in teams.
Passion for continuous process improvement. LEAN or other Operational Excellence training and experience a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
