The OMNI Biomarker Discovery Department at Genentech Research and Early Development is seeking a highly motivated, and interactive scientific researcher to undertake discovery efforts in the context of chronic fibro-inflammatory disorders. The position will report to the disease area strategy lead overseeing the department's translational research efforts pertaining to fibrosis across various organs. The successful candidate will be expected to make intellectual and technical contributions to the team, accessing and managing biosamples from collaborators and internal cohorts, implementing appropriate model systems to elucidate disease relevant pathways and derive actionable biomarker insights to aid drug discovery and clinical development. Though not required, translational research experience pertaining to kidney fibrosis will be a plus. Specific responsibilities will include performing exploratory disease-oriented research utilizing human blood/tissue samples, primary human cell culture studies, data analyses and communication.
Who you are
PhD in a relevant biomedical field, and 3+ years of laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting, relevant to human fibrotic disease. Non-PhD candidates with 5+ years of demonstrable experience in kidney/fibrosis research are also encouraged to apply.
Familiarity with immunological principles and a strong working knowledge in common lab techniques such as primary mammalian cell culture, immunoassay, and molecular techniques is necessary.
Clear oral/written communication skills and ability to productively interact with other teams is a must.
Creative problem-solving skills and an ability to integrate results into a larger disease-oriented context is preferred.
Those with demonstrable expertise in fibrosis biology as evidenced by high quality publications will be given preference.
