The Position

The Rock laboratory in the Immunology Department of Genentech seeks a creative and productive Senior Scientific Researcher to join us in the pursuit of innovative therapies for lung diseases.

The successful candidate will investigate basic mechanisms of inflammation, cellular plasticity and regenerative processes within the contexts of homeostasis, disease, and aging. She or he will initiate both technical and intellectual efforts to discover novel pathways involved in tissue regeneration and repair. The ultimate goal is to translate those discoveries into regenerative therapies for lung disease that may include immunomodulation, reprogramming and gene or cell therapy.

This is a hands-on discovery laboratory position with many opportunities to translate findings into novel therapeutics through collaborations with diverse groups across Genentech. As such, this role requires an individual who can work both individually and collaboratively at the bench and in discussions. We seek a self-motivated, collaborative, and inquisitive teammate who has the desire to make new biological discoveries and the drive to push them towards therapeutic development.

Requirements:

  • Relevant doctoral degree (Ph.D. and/or M.D.) and postdoctoral experience in molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, immunology, biochemistry, or related field
  • Track record of personal achievement illustrated by high impact first author publications and other tangible metrics
  • Qualified candidates should be adept at independently designing, executing and interpreting experiments
  • Excellent organization and communication skills

Preferred experience:

  • Expertise in lung/airway biology, including innate and acquired immunity
  • Proficiency in a broad range of techniques including:
  • Transgenic mouse models, rodent survival surgery
  • Culture and genetic manipulation of primary cells, ESCs, iPSCs, adult stem cells, organoids
  • Experience with genome editing, cellular reprogramming, gene therapy tools (AAV)
  • Ability to analyze and work with large datasets
