The Position

In the BioAnalytical Sciences (BAS) Department at Genentech, we are a world-class bioanalytical center of excellence for novel strategies, technologies, and methods that enable the development of life-changing medicines.  We do this by fostering an innovative and collaborative environment that values and recognizes diversity of contributions. We are seeing a highly motivated creative Scientist to develop bioanalytical methods and strategies to support biopharmaceuticals in the product development pipeline at Genentech.

The Scientist will devise bioanalytical strategies to support development of biotherapeutics, will manage timelines and resources to meet project goals, and will present these strategies to various scientific review committees.  Working with Scientific Researchers, this individual develops in vitro assay methods to quantify levels of biotherapeutics in various species and biological matrices, to detect and characterize immune responses evoked by the biotherapeutic, to measure biomarkers, and to characterize biological activities of clinical candidates in support of regulatory filings.  This will involve manual laboratory work, use of various assay platforms including ELISA, multi-parameter flow cytometry, primary cell isolation (AutoMacs and/or RoboSep), as well as participation in compliance and safety-related activities.  Responsibilities may also include supervision or one or more Scientific Researchers.

This individual may be responsible for writing sections of regulatory filings related to bioanalytical methods and characterization of biological activity.  This individual may also be involved with the assessment and implementation of new bioanalytical technologies and methods.  This individual also works in fast-paced cross-functional project team setting to help design and support pre-clinical and clinical studies, lead Bioanalytical Working Groups, and may be expected to lead pharmacology sub-teams or other cross-functional teams.  The successful candidate is also expected to conduct and publish novel research related to the job responsibilities.

Because we know that employees are critical to our success in bringing novel medicines to patients, we are dedicated to remaining a great place to work and to providing employees with programs, services and benefits that allow them to bring the best to the business and to their personal lives.

Requirements

In hiring new employees, we look for people who are also inspired by our mission and who would fit in well with a collaborative, rigorous, and entrepreneurial spirt of the company culture.

A Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or a related field is required, with a minimum of 3 years relevant postgraduate experience.  In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in developing cell-based bioanalytical assays to support immunogenicity and biomarker studies for protein therapeutics, along with a proven track record of publications solving complex biological and/or bioanalytical problems are essential. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills are required. Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience is a real advantage.
